Tasting Notes

Exotic spice aromas under a really inviting floral character and pure cassis and prune notes. Succulent and juicy, with energy and verve. Finely interwoven tannins.

Score: 93

Decanter, Decanter.com 25 February 2022

Fresh and direct, featuring a pretty core of savory-infused plum and blackberry fruit, lined with subtle alder and iron notes. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2023.

Score: 88

James Molesworth, Wine Spectator Maturity: 2020-2023 01 March 2020

A barrel sample blended of 61.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2.5% Petit Verdot, the 2017 Sarget de Gruaud Larose has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and quite an expressive nose of warm plums, black cherries and warm blackcurrants with nuances of tobacco and bay leaves. Medium-bodied, it has a soft texture and just enough juicy fruit, finishing savory.

Score: 87 - 89

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com 29 March 2019

The 2017 Sarget de Gruaud Larose is a pretty second wine built on floral aromatics and silky red/purplish berry fruit. Given its mid-weight structure, I would prefer to drink the Sarget on the early side.

Score: 88 - 90

Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com 01 May 2018

A deep and juicy red with currant and fresh herbs. Medium to full body, round tannins and a flavorful finish. Very good second wine.

Score: 88 - 89
