James Bond Bollinger Spectre (limited edition) and RD 2002

With the new James Bond film set to premiere in London at the end of October, Champagne Bollinger are celebrating with the release of Bollinger SPECTRE 2009, a limited edition bottle and cuvée from the 2009 vintage.
- Bollinger has been 007's Champagne of choice since its first mention in Ian Fleming's novel 'Diamonds are Forever' (1956), since then featuring in fourteen films and every Bond film since Roger Moore first drank a bottle in
'Live and Let Die' (1973).
-
Spectre will feature the excellent Bollinger RD 2002.
The Limited edition SPECTRE is produced from the best cuvées from the 2009 vintage, sourced exclusively from Grands Crus (68% Pinot Noir and 32% Chardonnay), and matured in small oak barrels. There will be no La Grande Année made from the small but very good 2009 vintage as the best quality fruit has all been reserved for the SPECTRE cuvée. Bollinger Cellar Master Gilles Descôtes says "we have kept the best, the richest wine" in the blend.
- The bottle itself is embossed with silver Bollinger and 007 branding. A sleek black cool-box is designed to mimic the texture of a gun grip on 007's Walther PPK, while keeping the bottle chilled for up to 2 hours: the perfect portable Champagne!

"Deep golden colour, which demonstrates the wine's maturity as well as Bollinger's winemaking methods. On the nose the vintage boasts a refined complexity, the expression of the Grands crus and terroirs. White flowers, citrus fruit, delicately woody stewed pear with hints of vanilla, toasted aromas, hazelnut & breadcrumbs. In the mouth the wine shows a good maturity yet remains quite brisk and lively. It moves through stewed fruit, mirabelle plum, quince paste and honey with a finish that reminds us of bitter orange "

"Featuring in SPECTRE and tasted recently in the office, the Bollinger RD 2002 is gorgeously rich in depth and flavour profile with notes of citrus, hazelnuts, pastry and yeasty notes. Full-bodied and serious with excellent crispness (it is Extra Brut) balancing the richness. A complex Champagne, perfect with food or without."

"A nod to British taste for seriously mature champagne? This wine should not be served too cool. It has real weight - though does not taste heavy. I loved it on first release as Grande Année and it is less austere now. A bit mellower and more open though still with the deep throat salve sensation on the finish. Drink 2014-2030"

"Super fresh, this is striking given the 10 years in the cellars; it has a fine citrus nose - plenty of lemon, grapefruit, yellow chalky notes, some lighter floral elements too. The palate is super dry (dosage at 3-4g) and there's a silky, sherbet-like texture, smooth, fine and long. The citrus flavours give way to the driving surging acidity, thunderous acidity, really driving and powerful. The finish twists very slowly through to light-toasted cashew fruit flavours, but lemon citrus prevails. This is thrilling Champagne. Disgorged 22nd October, 2013. Drink from 2016."
