The 2010s Retasted
“I consider 2010 to be one of the finest vintages in the history of the Southern Rhône, period. My personal cellar is heavily stocked with those wines.”
The 2010 vintage of Châteauneuf-du-Pape stands as a monumental achievement in the history of the Southern Rhône—so much so Vinous' Rhone critic Nicolas Greinacher deems it among the finest ever produced. From his recent tastings, we are delighted to offer a selection from our stocks, available now, including in magnums.
About the Vintage
The 2010 vintage is defined by power, precision, and exceptional ageing potential. Grenache yields were low (down by as much as 40%) so a greater reliance on Mourvèdre and Syrah means wines of deeper colour, richer texture, and darker fruit profiles. Warm, but not excessively hot, days were paired with cool nights, preserving acidity and freshness in the wines. Back then, power and density reigned supreme, with later harvests & heavier extraction contributing to the monumental structure of the vintage.
Many 2010s are now entering their drinking windows offering rich, layered expressions of fruit, spice, and minerality, but the more concentrated top cuvées (Hommage...) could go further, promising even greater complexity in the years to come. There is great value to be had, making 2010 a sensible choice for drinkers & collectors.

Neatly structured with polished tannins, the full-bodied 2010 gracefully concludes with a long, savory finish. Already drinking well today, it will easily hold for another decade thanks to its impeccable balance.

The 2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin is a monumental achievement from the Perrin family. Its kaleidoscopic nose kicks off with hauntingly fragrant rosewater, forest floor, kirsch, tobacco, lavender, ripe blackberry and black cherry compote. Crushed rocks add yet another layer of complexity. This ambitious red masterfully balances finesse and intensity with marked flavor concentration, culminating in an almost never-ending, nuanced resolution. Anyone fortunate enough to own this singular Châteauneuf-du-Pape can consider themselves really, really lucky. That said, I have a feeling the best is yet to come.
