Tasting like an eau de vie of rocks, the 2006 Ermitage l’Ermite blanc, from the top of the appellation, is utterly profound. An astonishing achievement, there are 227 cases of this beauty. With its light straw color, thickness that resembles a liqueur, and remarkable aromatic intensity of flowers, honeyed white currants, quince, pineapples, and stones, this wine is an education in tasting what rocks might taste like if they were liquified. Exceptionally full-bodied, it is a modern day legend that should have 50-75 years of longevity. Score: 100 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2009-2084 01 April 2009 |

At the very top of the appellation’s dome of decomposed granite is l’Ermite. This wine is the equivalent of drinking liquified rocks. The 2006 Ermitage l’Ermite blanc is pure perfection. A liqueur of licorice, crushed rocks, white citrus, and currants jumps from the glass, and in the mouth, the wine is one seamless, layered mouthful of citrus oil, white flowers, white peach, and honeysuckle. Just amazing. I am sure both of these vintages will live for 50-100+ years. Score: 100 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com 01 February 2008 |

Superintense, with a nearly searing minerality, this lets fleur de sel, blanched almond, chamomile and jasmine rice flavors race through, while papaya and Cavaillon melon notes fill in the background. Has a long, amazingly pure finish. Drink now through 2025. Score: 99 James Molesworth, Wine Spectator Maturity: 2008-2025 31 July 2008 |
