Tasting Notes

The 2013 Cabernet Franc has aged well and has now entered the early part of its drinking window. Cedar, sweet tobacco, leather and rose petals all grace this aromatic, nuanced Franc. The 2013 is on the softer side for the year, which makes is quite accessible.

The superstar among this group of wines is the 2013 Cabernet Franc, which comes from a block actually located within the larger To Kalon Vineyard. A blend of 97% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon planted in 1989, the wine has velvety tannins and a glorious nose of black raspberries, spring flowers and black currants. It is elegant but powerful, and it is more than a passing fancy that this wine represents a Napa version of the famous St.-Emilion Cheval Blanc. Fabulous depth and length but wonderful finesse are characteristics of this wine, which can be drunk now or cellared for another 12-15 years.
