The Burgundy firm of Jacques Prieur, who now owns this Pomerol estate, has fashioned an outstanding 2005 from one of the less prestigious terroirs of the appellation. It is a richly fruit, exuberant, flamboyant wine offering a sensual display of black cherries, sandy, loamy soil, subtle herbs, and spice. Lusciously textured with no astringency, it can be consumed now and over the next 10-12 years. Score: 90 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2008-2020 30 April 2008 |

Now owned by the same company that runs the well-known Burgundian firm of Jacques Prieur, Rouget’s dense ruby/purple-colored 2005 exhibits abundant amounts of unrestrained black cherry fruit interwoven with notions of pine forest, impressive glycerin levels, medium to full body, and an opulent, fleshy, sexy personality with no hard edges. Consume it during its first 10-15 years of life. Score: 90 - 92 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2007-2022 30 April 2007 |

The greatest Rouget ever made? A true sleeper of the vintage, this terrific 2005 exhibits tremendous opulence and power along with full body, and oodles of resiny black cherry fruit. It possesses tremendous glycerin, and the alcohol must be at least 14.5%. With good purity, enough acidity to provide definition, and abundant tannin, it can be consumed over the next 15 years. Score: 90 - 93 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com 30 April 2006 |

Rouget is situated next to Clos l’Eglise and Eglise Clinet and was historically one of the top Pomerols producing great - and long-lived wines - during the forties. Michel Rolland is now consultant oenologist here, with the 2005 predictably very dark in colour, with a pronounced nose of very ripe black fruits and toastiness. Full-bodied and unctuous with notes of coffee and spice, finishing long. Score: - Albany Vintners, - 10 April 2006 |

Vibrant crimson. Smells of oaked Cabernet! Lots of ripe fruit on the front palate. Charming but with a lot of fine tannin underneath. A little lacking on the finish. Quite gamey. Score: 16 Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2012-2022 10 April 2006 |

Complex aromas of vanilla, crushed berry and spices. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Gorgeous already. Best ever from here? Score: 92 - 94 James Suckling, Wine Spectator 01 April 2006 |
