The 2017 Arômes de Pavie is just gorgeous. Pliant and supple, with terrific fruit purity, the 2017 is an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next decade or so. Sweet red cherry and plum, mocha, wild flowers, rose petal and cinnamon add layers of nuance, but more than anything else the 2017 is a wine to drink for its joyous fruit and super-inviting personality. The 2017 Arômes de Pavie, a blend of 65% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc and 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, has a high-toned, iodine-infused bouquet with precocious blueberry and blackcurrant aromas, and a hint of graphite in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, firm and compact, the Cabernet Sauvignon imparting graphite notes towards the solid finish. I would just like a little more charm to show through as it ages (and this will require four to five years - choose the Esprit de Pavie for short-term drinking.) There was no frost in this vineyard in 2017, due to its elevation. Blended of 65% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc and 17% Cabernet Sauvignon from the young vines of Pavie, the 2017 Arômes de Pavie is very deep purple-black in color with an incredibly open, spicy nose with a core of baked plums, blackberry pie and dark chocolate with touches of potpourri, black olives and Indian spices plus a waft of damp soil. Full-bodied, firm and velvety, it's packed with black fruits and spice layers, finishing long and opulent. Score: 91 - 93 Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com 27 April 2018 |

Black with purple rim. Lifted bramble fruit. Blueberry and elderberry – very ripe but not overripe. Dense, dark, firm but not as tough as the Bellevue-Mondotte just tasted. Thick, chewy and for the long haul. Score: 16 Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2027-2035 25 April 2018 |

From a terroir located on the plateau of Saint-Emilion, as well as the younger vines of Pavie, the 2017 Pavie Arômes de Pavie (mostly Merlot with roughly 20% of Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon) is a blockbuster effort that readers should snatch up. Rounded, opulent, and concentrated, with terrific notes of cassis, flowers, and violets, it packs ample fruit and texture, yet stays elegant and seamless. It’s a big step up from the Esprit de Pavie and has real depth and richness. Score: 90 - 93 Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com 23 April 2018 |

Warm, dark fig and blackberry compote flavors lead off here, backed by melted licorice notes and a solid shot of roasted apple wood on the finish. A youthful jumble today, but the pieces are there. Score: 89 - 92 James Molesworth, Wine Spectator 04 April 2018 |

A firm and elegant red with very pretty dark berries, dark chocolate and mineral undertones. Round tannins. Medium-to full-bodied, racy and fine. Juicy. Second wine of Pavie. Score: 92 - 93 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com 03 April 2018 |

This would be a good grand vin for many estates; big, even, particularly in 2017. Tight, intense fruit aromas impress with their power but struggle to maintain momentum, and the flavours of pure cassis, liquorice, dark chocolate and some lovely spice notes don't quite extend through to the close of play. They are now using 4ha of Cabernet Franc from the limestone plateau that was used in Pavie until 2015. 50% new oak. Yield 22hl/ha. Score: 89 Jane Anson, Decanter.com Maturity: 2024-2034 01 April 2018 |
