Tasting Notes

The 2018 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru has a kaleidoscopic nose with mineral-rich yellow fruit, chalk and apple blossom, cohering marvelously with aeration. The palate is beautifully balanced, quite powerful with real weight and density. Plenty of extract towards the finish. There is just the right amount of bitterness to keep this edgy. Excellent. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.

The 2018 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru has a very classy bouquet, very focused and detailed with crushed rocks and yellow flowers gently unfolding in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with a peppery opening. Great depth and intensity here as it fans out gloriously towards the finish, clearly a sophisticated Chevalier with a very persistent aftertaste. Maybe even better than I estimated from barrel.

The 2018 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru comes from Colin’s 0.27 hectares of vines and filled six barrels this year, three of them new. It has a complex bouquet with subtle aromas of walnut and pine nuts infusing the citrus fruit; crushed limestone aromas develop with aeration. The palate is very well balanced, the new oak lending a smooth veneer but never impeding upon the terroir expression. Traces of vanilla and white chocolate impart sweetness on a finish that feels very long. Superb.
