Tasting Notes

Revisited from bottle, Rousseau's 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Village is a rich, demonstrative wine, bursting from the glass with aromas of raspberries and cherries mingled with raw cocoa, orange rind, peonies and hints of cedary oak. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and textural, with uncommon mid-palate weight and imposing reserves of ripe fruit, it's structured around powdery tannins and succulent acids. This is carrying unusual puppy fat, yet it retains the domaine's stylistic signatures and promises to age with grace.

Score: 91

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Village opens in the glass with a deeper-pitched bouquet of red plums, wild berries, peonies, baking chocolate and sweet soil tones. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, textural and nicely concentrated, with powdery tannins, ripe acids and a long, sapid finish. This, too, is showing well. As usual, the communal Gevrey includes fruit from premiers crus Perrières and Etournelles Saint-Jacques.

Score: 90 - 92

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a fragrant bouquet of raspberry and veins of blue fruit, gaining intensity with time. The palate is well balanced with light tannins but plenty of fruit and just a touch of pepperiness on the finish.

Score: 88 - 90
