Tasting Notes

The 2019 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru has a composed, harmonious bouquet of citrus peel and Granny Smith apples; a subtle flinty note develops with aeration. The palate is taut and fresh on the entry, with orange zest and light peachy notes, but maintains a satisfying level of tension through to the precise finish. Excellent.

Very creamy on the nose, marked by the lees and gentle oak. Fresh citrus and almost something floral, like blossom, as well as stony/mineral character. Rich, deep and lively. Generous with a good acid backbone, even if it is a little softer than the Vaillons. (JH)

Pale color. An admirably pure, airy and decidedly cool nose features notes of acacia, citrus zest and mineral reduction. The wonderfully refined, chalky and stony medium weight flavors possess really lovely underlying tension and fine detail while delivering excellent length where the only nit is a touch of warmth. This too will need to add depth, but the quality of the underlying material appears up to the task. Sweet spot Outstanding

Still cloudy having just been racked, and the wood shows a little. Powerful on the palate, the spices are hard at work, massive concentration, the sunshine of Chapelots to the fore. Rich yellow fruit with, some white stone fruit notes beneath, juicy, but especially spicy. A powerful bottle not to be drunk young.
