Soft through the mid palate, this majors on raspberry and red cherry fruits, along with lemongrass and underripe plum notes also, struggles to really get going and the acidity is a little high, although the attractive gunsmoke and grilled oak helps round things out. Harvest September 30 to October 20. An enjoyable wine in the vintage from owner Jean-Luc Zuger. Michel Rolland consultant Score: 89 Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux Maturity: 2027-2040 02 April 2024 |

The 2021 Malescot St. Exupéry is beautiful—a wine that isn't trying to be too much in this challenging vintage. Floral aromatics and silky tannins give this mid-weight edition of Malescot quite a bit of charm. All the elements are so nicely balanced. Crushed flowers, dark red/purplish fruit, mint, spice and a dash of orange peel linger. This is nicely done. Score: 94 Antonio Galloni, Inside Bordeaux Maturity: 2028-2046 27 February 2024 |

The 2021 Malescot Saint Exupéry, aged in 60% new oak, has a tightly would bouquet with blackberry, cedar and crushed violet scents. It takes a few swirls of the glass to really get into gear. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly grainy tannins, maybe a little chewy compared to its stablemate, Labégorce, with a marine-influenced finish that, as I mentioned out of barrel, feels a little abrupt. NB A second bottle has a little more energy. Score: 91 Neal Martin, Inside Bordeaux Maturity: 2028-2045 22 February 2024 |

Mid to dark crimson. Sweet, seductive nose. Very gentle tannins which lurk rather than dominate. A wine that really does taste like a young wine – and a young Margaux at that – that will blossom. Dry but not too drying finish. Neat. Very classic claret with sufficient but not excessive ripeness. Though there is nothing remotely flashy about it and I may be being too generous with my score; its charms are quite subtle. And it’s not especially concentrated. A ‘fluid’ wine… Some may criticise it for its lack of weight. Score: 17 Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2027-2042 06 May 2022 |

A tight and focused young red with redcurrant and blackberry character. It’s medium-bodied with racy and fine tannins and a linear, focused finish. Lots going on, yet it’s tight and energetic. Score: 94 - 95 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com 01 May 2022 |

The 2021 Malescot St. Exupery is a terrific effort, offering up aromas of sweet cassis and plums mingled with notions of licorice, espresso roast and toasty oak. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's impressively layered, with a sweet core of fruit, ripe tannins and lively acids. The dramatic style of the château has worked very well with the cooler, later-maturing vintage. The blend is 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. Beautifully balanced, the 2021 Château Malescot Saint Exupéry is a classic, impressive 2021 that's worth seeking out. Darker fruits, spice, dried herbs, and a kiss of flowers all emerge on the nose, and it's medium-bodied, has ripe tannins, and shows the pretty, graceful style of the vintage.
