Tasting Notes

Picked 1st September but still no more than 13.5%. Destemmed, two new in four barrels. Lovely remarkably rich deep purple, with a wealth of very tight dark fruit. All aspects are remarkably concentrated, including the tannins. Dark red and blackcurrant with the brambly side of raspberry. A thick texture at the moment, which will refine with more elevage. Tasted: November 2021.

Score: 90 - 93

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Etelois is 100% de-stemmed and contains 14.0° alcohol. Despite a touch of reduction, there are some lovely raspberry and blueberry fruit here, laced with pressed violets. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, gentle and caressing with a velvety smooth finish. This is superb.

Score: 92 - 94

Etelois is a fantastically well-place village parcel, arguably the best in Gevrey, sandwiched between the Grands Crus of Griotte Chambertin and Charmes Chambertin. Known for its elegance over other village blends.
