The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques is showing brilliantly from bottle, soaring from the glass with aromas of raspberries, Griotte cherries, peonies, rich soil tones, smoked meats and dark chocolate, framed by a deft application of cedary new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a rich and multidimensional core that's framed by refined tannins and a lively spine of acidity, concluding with a long and pungently intense finish. Score: 95 William Kelley, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2026-2056 09 January 2020 |

The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru is blessed with a bouquet of real pedigree: very complex mixture of red and black brambly fruit, sous-bois, crushed stone and rose petal aromas. The harmony and delineation is outstanding. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, pliant tannins that lend this Clos Saint-Jacques symmetry and poise. Fresh and vibrant, it never relinquishes any of its breeding and tension. The finish is persistent and utterly captivating. Fabulous. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. Score: 97 Neal Martin, Vinous.com Maturity: 2023-2055 01 October 2019 |

Gorgeous aromas of rose, strawberry, cherry and sandalwood are enhanced by licorice, earth and spice notes on the palate in this complex, harmonious red. Silky and racy, this channels a minerally graphite element on the long aftertaste. Best from 2022 through 2045. Score: 97 Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator Maturity: 2022-2045 29 August 2019 |

(from a 2.2 ha parcel raised in 80% new wood). Rousseau noted that the 2016 CSJ contains more fruit from the upper portion as the lower part was heavily affected by the frost. An elegant, pure and exuberantly spicy nose blends notes of essence of red berries with wisps of earth, lavender and a background hint of oak. The equally pure middle weight flavors possess excellent mid-palate concentration along with the same intense mineral streak as the Ruchottes while delivering stunningly good depth and persistence on the beautifully well-balanced finish. As good as the Ruchottes is, and it’s first-rate, there is simply another dimension present here. Score: 95 Allen Meadows, Burghound Maturity: 2036+ 10 January 2018 |
