Tasting Notes

The 2022 Château La Chenade checks in as 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc that comes from nine hectares of vines and was brought up in 30% new French oak. Bight black cherries, a hint of cassis, graphite, and flowers all emerge from the glass, and it's beautifully textured, medium to full-bodied, and has a silky, graceful, yet still classic 2022 style.

The 2022 Château La Chenade is a step up over the Saintayme at this point and should be terrific. Black cherries, mulberries, chocolate, and spicy, floral notes all emerge from the glass, and it's medium-bodied, with beautiful tannins and outstanding length.

The 2022 La Chenade is bashful at first, perhaps due to the weather on the day I visited, though with a few swirls, it reveals finely delineated blackberry, iris flower and subtle mineral elements on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied, but what strikes you immediately is the sheer purity of fruit. There is a patina of new oak to be subsumed (30% here), but there is plenty of substance to soak that up. It has impressive weight on the finish. This is a Lalande-de-Pomerol from Nöemie Durantou that I might have underestimated from barrel.

The 2022 La Chenade was picked between 1 and 9 September and raised in 30% new oak. This has a perfumed and floral bouquet, with iris and peony infusing the black and red fruit and a light marine influence in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, good depth, white pepper and clove filtering through the earthy fruit on the finish. So much character and personality in this Lalande-de-Pomerol.

This is a really beautiful Lalande-de-Pomerol, with very attractive, fine tannins that are polished and refined. It caresses your palate. Medium-bodied with black-olive, dark-berry and light chocolate character. It's very persistent and beautiful. One of the best wines from this appellation in a long, long time. 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc. Drink after 2028.

The 2022 La Chénade is a gorgeous Lalande-de-Pomerol from sisters Noemie and Constance Durantou. A healthy dollop of Cabernet Franc (20%) lifts a core of Merlot fruit as this racy red opens in the glass. Dark cherry, blood orange, new leather and rose petal are some of the many nuances that take shape in the glass. La Chénade offers a striking combination of intensely ripe fruit and energy, all lifted by floral top notes that develop with air. This is such a compelling wine.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com Maturity: 2026-2037 01 January 2025

The 2022 La Chenade reveals sweet aromas of cherries, berries, licorice and rose petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and seamless palate. This suave, charming, fruit-driven Lalande-de-Pomerol is more vibrant than its Saint-Emilion counterpart this year.

A real sign of the vintage to see how the Durantou wines performed in Lalande in the heat of 2022 and here we have fully ripe blackcurrant and black cherry fruits, sweet and highly spiced, careful extraction as you would expect, annd this is good quality, but for me the mark of the vintage are the clove notes on the finish. 30% new oak. Sandy-gravel soils, 28hl/h yield. Harvest dates September 1 to 9.
