Tasting Notes

The smoke-tinged, minerally nose leads to well-spiced and expansive flavors of white raspberry, blood orange zest, toasted brioche and pickled ginger in this well-toned rosé Champagne. A satiny mousse and mouthwatering acidity frame the elegant finish. Drink now through 2029.

There’s power to this vivid rosé Champagne, harnessed by a silky texture and a sense of finesse. Mineral-driven, with a rich, smoky underpinning, this offers an expansive palate of puréed raspberry and apricot preserves, with hints of candied kumquat, marzipan, graphite and star anise. Drink now through 2030.

The fascinatingly copper-colored 2004 Dom Pérignon Rosé has a beautifully delicate bouquet of red fruits, and indicates a great purity and freshness. Kept on the lees for at least nine years to smooth the tannins the 2004 reveals a weightless power on the palate. It has a deep and concentrated, highly elegant Pinot character (though Chardonnay and Pinot are more or less 50/50), and is full of finesse and freshness. The 2004 is intense and vinous, yet pure, precise and extremely fine. Adorable.

Mid to pale orange rose (as in the flower) colour. Apparently the proportion of red wine was the highest ever, 27% of the blend. Notably opulent rose-petal nose. Very broadly fruity and deep flavoured with massive palate impact that surely has the power to mend sore throats. Beautiful smooth satin texture. ‘We squeezed everything out of this vintage', said Richard Geoffroy, ‘we really worked had on it'. This is a great wine that happens to be pink. It’s not remotely sweet but is beautifully round and complete. I have suggested it was probably delicious two years ago but in fact it had only just been released.

Relative to many other recent vintages, the 2004 Dom Pérignon Rosé comes across as quite delicate, feminine and graceful. Floral notes are woven throughout, adding to a very appealing and attractive sense of lift. It will be interesting to see if the 2004 puts on weight in bottle. At the moment, the 2004 is a bit understated, but I will not be surprised if at some point it takes off given the extremely positive way in which the 2004 blanc has developed over the last few years. (94+ Points)
