Tasting Notes

Stylish, with tobacco, white pepper and olive notes up front, followed by a medium-weight core of mulled cherry and damson plum fruit. Hints of cherry pit and blood orange frame the lightly firm finish. Best from 2011 through 2018. 500 cases made.

Score: 91

Quite dark crimson with a brownish tinge. Lots of smoke and liquorice, but very polished too - very sumptuous. Black pepper on the finish, but lots of fascinating and well balanced fruit on the mid palate. Very obviously Côte Rôtie with a certain transparency. Lovely wine. Excellent refreshing finish.

The 2007 Cote Rotie La Landonne exhibits classic aromas of scorched earth, black olives, black currants, graphite, and licorice. With good acidity, medium body, and a subtle streak of greenness in the fruit, this 2007 should taste even better out of bottle than it does from barrel (typical for Rostaing’s wines). It should evolve for a decade or more.

There is a tangible step up from the Classique with a lovely gamey nose, with a touch of steaming espresso. Good definition and lots of character. The palate is well defined, very oaky at the moment of course, generous black fruits, black coffee, a touch of cumin, briary and damson. Fine tannins leading to a swaggering finish. Quietly impressive.
