Tasting Notes

The 2013 La Petite Eglise, which Denis Durantou poured from magnum since this is how the entire production was bottled, has a precise and fragrant bouquet with crushed stone scents filtering through the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, tensile and fresh in the mouth, not powerful or deep, but lively and playful from start to finish. This is worth seeking out.

Pure Merlot picked between 27 and 2 October, the second wine of L'Eglise-Clinet is being matured in 50% new wood. It has a very pure bouquet with strawberry, orange zest and a touch of cassis - moderate intensity but precise. The palate is medium-bodied with good structure on the entry, good body in the mouth. As usual, there is more complexity here than almost every other Pomerol cru, with a lovely touch of spice towards the finish. This is very fine.

Fleshy and inviting, with plum paste, blackberry coulis and black tea notes woven together and backed by a twinge of iron on the finish. Features some showy toast.
