Chateau l'Eglise Clinet 2023 released
4 June 2024
Candidate for Wine of the Vintage & Neal Martin's top-scoring wine with 98-100:
One of the most celebrated Pomerol crus from the famous clay plateau, Chateau L'EGLISE CLINET is a tiny, artisan scale production of approx 1000 cases from very old vines of 75+ years (the oldest Cabernet Franc vines were planted in 1905 and 1935).
Eglise Clinet is always part of the discussion for Wine of the Vintage but remains priced at a fraction of qualitative peers. This is the finest detailed winemaking by the Durantou sisters, continuing the outstanding work of their late father Denis.
The 2023 is complex, and profound, the architecture and vibrancy of 2019 with the layered power of 2018.
Limited stock.
"It's very harmonious and fans out brilliantly on the finish. It is surely going to vie with the stupendous 2022" 98-100 Neal Martin.

La PETITE EGLISE - £204 per 6 IB - A much smaller crop this year for Eglise Clinet's second label. Astonishing value for money, a serious, high-quality Pomerol for the long term.
"The 2023 La Petite Eglise is a serious, deep wine. Dark-toned fruit, graphite, leather, menthol, spice and incense lend this large-scaled Pomerol a ton of distinction." 92-94 Antonio Galloni
The Durantous also make some of the best values in the whole of Bordeaux. Just a stone’s throw from Pomerol in Lalande de Pomerol, La Chenade and Les Cruzelles are better than many Pomerols while Saintayme and Montlandrie are also bywords for great value. These are brilliant Bordeaux that never fail to impress. At under £20 per bt inc taxes, they come highly recommended.
Les CRUZELLES Impressive Lalande de Pomerol from the gravel-clay soils that you find on the plateau of Pomerol. "This is one of the best young Lalande de Pomerols I have had. It is very deep and complex on the palate, with pure fruit, spice and chocolate. Lovely tannins, too." 94-95 James Suckling
MONTLANDRIE - Excellent this year and probably the best Montlandrie yet, thanks to 25% Cabernet Sauvignon now included in the blend "Left-Bank-meets-Right-Bank in style". .... Together with Les Cruzelles, these wines represent outstanding value for money. This will certainly age well in bottle." 92-94 Neal Martin
La CHENADE - "100% Merlot this year, opens with gorgeous aromatics. Medium in body and vibrant, with terrific energy, the 2023 is all class... This is beautifully done." 90-92 AG
SAINTAYME - Delicious Saint Emilion, packed with dark fruits. "The 2023 Saintayme, 100% Merlot, is a deep, serious wine...a very fine Saintayme." 91-93 AG
