Chateau Mouton Rothschild Unveils New Label Design

First Growth Chateau Mouton Rothschild has unveiled the label design for its newly bottled 2022, continuing their long-held tradition of combining art & great wine.

The 2022 label commemorates the centenary of Baron Philippe de Rothschild's arrival at the Chateau.  This year's design by French artist Gerard Garouste incorporates a portrait of the Baron alongside a ram, the emblem of the estate, on a heraldic-like banner. 

Baron Philippe de Rothschild initiated the estate’s iconic label series in 1945, selecting works from world-renowned artists to to celebrating the fusion between art & wine.   Over the decades, artists like Pablo Picasso (1973 vintage), Andy Warhol (1975 vintage), Francis Bacon (1990 vintage) have been chosen. A design by Charles, Prince of Wales was used for the 2004 vintage, and more recently designs by David Hockney (2014 vintage), Xu Bing (2018 vintage) & Chiaaru Shiota (2021 vintage) have featured.

The Baron Philippe is an important character in the history of the region, revolutionising Bordeaux wine by introducing bottling at the Chateau, ensuring quality control from vineyard to bottle. He established Mouton Rothschild as a First Growth, the first and only Chateau to be elevated from its position in the the original 1855 classification. 

Mouton Rothschild's 2022 is massive & full-bodied, a true powerhouse, rated amongst the very best wines of the vintage: "Powerful, almost burly, it is perhaps how the 1986 tasted in its youth. A Mouton-Rothschild determined to make a statement and it certainly does that."
